The text was taken from lyrics of 18th century Italian arias composed by Caldara, Handel, and Scarlatti. Nancy Leavitt hand lettered the text and painted images of over 1,000 stones on Hobart light wove paper made by Katie MacGregor of Whiting, Maine. Joelle Leavitt Webber, Mermaid Bindery, bound the book in birch boards and embedded the jewel-like dicroic glass on the cover. She also made the clamshell box which houses the book and secret placard which hides small stones and glass in the bottom of the box. Jeweler, Alison Thibault of Vinal Haven, Maine, created the dicroic glass stones.
